How to review your own gameplay in 15 minutes

Most players watch replays like highlights. Here is how to watch them like a coach — quickly, and with one clear takeaway.

Recording your games is easy. Learning from them is not — because most of us watch a replay the way we watched the match: following the action, wincing at the misplays, skipping the quiet parts. The quiet parts are where the answers usually are.

1. Pick one question before you press play

Don’t review “the whole game”. Choose a single question, such as “Why did I lose the fights I took first?” or “Where was I when the objective was decided?”. One question keeps the session short and the lesson sharp.

2. Watch the ten seconds before, not the moment itself

The mistake you notice — a lost duel, a missed save — is normally the result of a decision made earlier: your position, your timing, what information you ignored. Rewind and pause ten seconds before each key moment, and ask what you knew, and what you chose.

3. Tag, don’t judge

Keep a short list and tag every key moment with one word: position, timing, information, mechanics or mindset. After a few games a pattern appears. That pattern is far more useful than any single “bad play”.

4. Leave with exactly one change

End the review by writing one sentence you can act on in your next session: “Before I peek, I check the minimap.” One habit, practised on purpose, beats five good intentions.

A 15-minute template

  1. 2 minutes: choose the question and three moments to check.
  2. 9 minutes: three moments × three minutes — rewind ten seconds, pause, tag.
  3. 4 minutes: count the tags, find the pattern, write your one change.

In Premium, your coach does this with you on your own recordings — and then builds the drills around the pattern you find.
